Polite Formalities: Manners are highly valued here, so it’s best to begin any onshore interaction with a cheerful and respectful "Good morning" or "Good afternoon" before asking for directions or ordering.

Ground Transfers

Taxis: Open-air safari buses and large taxi vans are widely available at the airport and major ferry docks. Uber and other ride-sharing apps do not operate in St. Vincent & The Grenadines. Taxis are cash-only, and fares are calculated on a flat-rate zone system. Always agree on the currency (USD vs. XCD) and price with your driver before pulling away.

Customs & Immigration

A valid passport is strictly required for all international travelers. Citizens of the US, Canada, the UK, the EU, and Australia do not require a visa for tourist stays. Your captain and crew will handle the official maritime customs clearance paperwork as you cruise across the islands.

It is recommended that passports are not due to expire within 3 months of your travel dates.

Traveling with Children

Any person under the age of majority (depending on destination) is considered a minor. If a minor is traveling alone, with only one parent, or with friends/relatives, they should carry a signed and notarized travel consent letter. The specific rules and cut-offs for minors traveling with or without consent vary depending on the destination and the transportation method.

Currency

Currency Accepted: The official currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD or EC$), which is pegged to the US Dollar at a permanent rate of $1 USD = $2.70 XCD. US Dollars are universally accepted across all the islands, so there is no need to exchange money prior to your trip.
Best Way to Exchange Money: ATMs are readily available at airports and in major towns (like Port Elizabeth in Bequia or Clifton in Union Island), dispensing local EC$ at the official rate.
Cash vs. Cards: Credit cards are accepted at major resorts, marinas, and upscale boutiques. However, cash is absolute king on the islands. You will need physical cash (USD or EC$) for local beach bars, fresh lobster dinners on the beach, mooring fees, and purchasing fresh bread or ice from the local "boat boys."
Tipping:
- Restaurants: 10% to 15% is standard. Always check your bill, as a 10% service charge is sometimes already included.
- Taxis: A small tip or rounding up the fare is customary.
- Yacht Gratuity: For luxury crewed charters, an industry-standard tip of 15% to 20% of the base charter fee is customary for the crew's outstanding, round-the-clock service.

Electrical and Communications

Power: Outlets on land are typically British-style Type G plugs (230V) running at 50Hz. Yacht electrical systems vary by vessel, but standard adapters are typically kept on board. Let your crew know in advance if you have sensitive medical devices (like CPAP machines).
Connectivity: Check with your cellular provider before departing to activate an international roaming plan or day pass.
Internet speeds can sometimes be weak in certain cruising areas, so it's best to download any important and necessary files ahead of time, such as music and videos. If you plan to use your phone's cellular roaming, you may want to consider purchasing an e-sim, which is usually much less expensive than your phone provider's roaming fees. December to April (Dry Season / Peak): Postcard-perfect blue skies and comfortable tropical temperatures averaging 25°C to 29°C (78°F to 84°F). Consistent, steady "Trade Winds" blow during these months, offering world-class, active sailing.
May to July (Mid-Summer): Warm, lush, and peaceful. Air temperatures average 28°C to 31°C (82°F to 88°F). The winds soften significantly, resulting in flat, glassy, lake-like seas—perfect for snorkeling and paddleboarding.
August to November (Green Season): A quieter, serene time on the water. The weather is warmer, with passing tropical afternoon showers that clear quickly. The sea is at its warmest, averaging a luxurious 29°C (84°F).

Best Time to Charter

For families, snorkelers, and guests who prefer calm, flat seas and uncrowded anchorages, the late spring and early summer (May to July) are the ultimate hidden gems.
