Welcome to the jewel of the Adriatic. With over a thousand islands and crystalline waters, Croatia is a paradise best experienced from the deck of a luxury yacht. To ensure your journey with The Charter Yacht Company is effortless, here is your quick logistical blueprint.
Travel and Customs
Airports: You will fly into Split (SPU) for central Dalmatia, Dubrovnik (DBV) for southern routes, or Zadar (ZAD) for the northern Kornati islands.
Ground Transfers: Uber is active in major coastal cities. For a seamless experience, we recommend booking a private van transfer through your broker to accommodate luggage directly to your marina.
Customs & Passports: Croatia is an EU and Schengen Area member. U.S., UK, Canadian, and Australian citizens do not need a visa for stays under 90 days. Please ensure your passports are valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates.
Marinas: Primary embarkation locations include ACI Marina Split, Marina Kaštela, SCT Marina Trogir, ACI Marina Dubrovnik, and D-Marin Mandalina (Šibenik).
Currency
Currency: Croatia uses the Euro (€). Local businesses do not accept USD.
Exchanging Money: Use local bank ATMs (Bankomat) upon arrival for the best rates. Avoid independent, generic ATMs and airport kiosks due to high fees.
Cash vs. Cards: Credit cards are widely accepted, but cash is essential on the islands for small taverns (konobas), markets, water taxis, and crew gratuities.
Tipping: 10% to 15% is customary in restaurants (leave in cash). For the yacht crew, an industry-standard tip of 10% to 15% of the base charter fee is customary for excellent service, paid in cash at the end of the week.
Electrical and Communications
Power: Outlets are European standard Type C and Type F (230V). Yachts have onboard power, but bring adapters for land use.
Connectivity: > Cell signals can drop in remote bays. We recommend downloading music/files ahead of time and switching off automatic photo syncing. Consider an e-sim via Airalo (use code TCYC9670 for a $3 credit) for affordable roaming data.
Weather
May & June: Sunny, comfortable days (72°F–80°F / 22°C–27°C) with steady Maestral afternoon winds.
July & August: Peak summer. Hot days (86°F–95°F / 30°C–35°C), warm seas, and calm anchoring conditions.
September & October: Warm water, fewer crowds, and comfortable weather (75°F–82°F / 24°C–28°C) with great sailing breezes.
Packing Tips
Comfortable Shore Shoes: Croatian beach towns and old world ports feature beautiful but highly uneven pebble stone pathways. Be sure to pack comfortable, supportive walking shoes or sturdy sandals for exploring ashore.
Light Evening Layers: Even in the height of summer, the coastal breeze kicks in once the sun goes down. Bring a light jacket, a smart sweater, or a pashmina for dinners on land.
