What Does a Charter Yacht Vacation Cost?

Updated: Sep 12

One of the first questions people ask when considering a yacht charter is: “What does it cost?” The truth is, just like hotels, resorts, or vacation rentals, the price of a charter yacht vacation can vary widely depending on the type of yacht, the destination, and the level of service included. Here’s a clear breakdown to help you understand what to expect when planning your dream getaway at sea.

Types of Yacht Charters and Pricing

⛵ Sailing Catamarans

Sailing catamarans are among the most popular options in the Caribbean. They offer space, stability, and comfort. Prices usually range from $15,000 up to $100,000 per week for the entire yacht, with crewed catamarans including meals, drinks, and water toys.

🚤 Motor Yachts

If speed and luxury are a priority, motor yachts provide a five-star experience with high-end interiors and faster cruising between islands. Expect to pay from $35,000 – $100,000+ per week, depending on size and amenities.

🛥️ Superyachts

The ultimate in luxury, superyachts come with full crew, multiple decks, Jacuzzis, jet skis, and much more. These start around $100,000 per week and can reach several hundred thousand dollars, offering an unmatched private luxury resort experience at sea.

What’s Included?

Most crewed charters include:

  • Private accommodations aboard the yacht

  • Captain and professional crew

  • All meals, snacks, and beverages (tailored to your preferences)

  • Water sports equipment like paddleboards, snorkeling gear, or kayaks

Some yachts also include a greater selection of water toys, diving, and more luxury amenities. For others, these may be additional costs.

Additional Costs to Consider

  • Gratuity: Typically 15–20% of the base charter rate in the Caribbean, given at the end of the trip to the hardworking crew.

  • Taxes & Fees: Depending on the cruising area, local taxes or permits may apply.

  • APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance): On luxury motor yachts and superyachts, this is a pre-paid expense account (usually 30–35% of the charter rate) to cover fuel, dockage, premium food, and special requests.

Why It’s Worth It

When you book a charter yacht vacation, you’re not just booking a place to stay—you’re securing a fully customized experience. Unlike a resort, your yacht moves with you, taking you to secluded coves, lively beach bars, or unspoiled snorkeling spots at your pace. It’s a private, all-inclusive adventure tailored specifically for your group.
