Northern Belize offers a classic Caribbean charter experience centered around the Belize Barrier Reef. Calm waters, vibrant marine life, and laid-back island culture define this region. With short cruising distances and abundant reef access, it is ideal for water-focused charters.

This sample 7-night itinerary highlights the rhythm of cruising through northern Belize’s cayes and atolls.

Day 1: Belize City – Embarkation & Caye Caulker

Board your yacht in Belize City and cruise toward Caye Caulker. Anchor just offshore in clear, shallow water.

Spend the afternoon swimming and snorkeling along nearby coral patches before going ashore to explore the island’s relaxed waterfront cafés and colorful streets. The atmosphere is easy and welcoming, setting the tone for the week ahead.

Day 2: Hol Chan Marine Reserve & Shark Ray Alley

Cruise north toward Ambergris Caye and the renowned Hol Chan Marine Reserve. This protected area is one of the most vibrant sections of the Belize Barrier Reef.

Snorkel among coral formations filled with tropical fish, nurse sharks, and southern stingrays. The calm, shallow water makes it ideal for both experienced snorkelers and first-time guests.

Anchor nearby for a peaceful evening beneath open Caribbean skies.

Day 3: Ambergris Caye – Island Energy & Reef Access

Spend the morning anchored near San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. Go ashore to explore boutique shops, beach bars, and waterfront dining.

In the afternoon, cruise along the reef side for additional snorkeling sites with excellent visibility and marine life. The combination of lively town atmosphere and easy reef access makes Ambergris a highlight of the region.

Day 4: Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve – Remote & Wild

Cruise north toward Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve near the Mexican border. This area feels more remote and less trafficked.

Snorkel along dramatic reef walls and explore mangrove channels by tender. The ecosystem here is rich and largely untouched, offering a quieter alternative to the more visited central reef sites.

Day 5: Turneffe Atoll – Blue Water & Exceptional Diving

Head offshore to Turneffe Atoll, one of Belize’s three major atolls. Known for its clear water and thriving coral systems, Turneffe offers exceptional snorkeling and diving.

Explore reef drop-offs, coral gardens, and shallow lagoons. Anglers may enjoy catch-and-release fishing for snapper or barracuda.

The sense of remoteness increases as you anchor away from mainland views.

Day 6: Half Moon Caye – Birdlife & Pristine Beaches

Continue toward Lighthouse Reef Atoll and Half Moon Caye Natural Monument. This protected island is home to nesting seabirds and pristine beaches.

Snorkel along vibrant reef formations or walk along the island’s white sand shoreline. The anchorage here feels peaceful and untouched.

Day 7: Return Toward Caye Caulker – Relaxed Cruising

Begin cruising back toward Caye Caulker or Ambergris Caye. Stop along the reef for one final snorkel session in warm, clear water.

Enjoy a farewell dinner onboard as the sun sets over the Caribbean, reflecting on a week centered around reef exploration and island life.

Day 8: Belize City – Disembarkation

Return to Belize City after breakfast for disembarkation. Many guests extend their stay to explore inland Maya ruins or rainforest lodges.
